The Love between Fork and Pear

This requires some explanation. Before this blog was born, when it was a twinkle in the Snapper's eye, she had begun a thread on chocolateandzucchini.com that you can see here: What's your pleasure This was the beginning of the idea for this blog and this was the first of many collaborations. For those of you who never got to see these early beginnings, I have decided to post them here. This picture "was used as the symbol of one of the Sydney Food Months...run by The Sydney Morning Herald... it was used on postcards, posters, flags...you name it" to quote the Snapper. I don't know who originally took the photo, but would love to give them credit for it. My response to it was as follows:

Having seen the purity and delicate quality of the golden and ladylike pear upon the plate, the fork was driven to distraction until fearing his rival the knife might steal a march on him, he instantly declared his love for the pear and embraced her.

The pear, the elegant stem of her hat curling over like the tail of a languid cat paid no attention. She felt warm, but attributed this warmth to the room temperature and not the rising tide of passion that welled up in her. She felt that the pool of sweet liquid about her base must be because she was melting... melting with a love she could not bear to express. Decorum would have been outraged... and, she felt a tenderness towards the fork; a sense that if she moved or spoke the moment of this warm embrace might end.

Ta, Rolfe. I loved the picture too... now I'm imagining you having drawn it! That would be something.

I hope if you are going to swoon you will do it delicately on a chaise longue and that DD will fetch the smelling salts. ...Mamma has swooned again, she is such a delicate thing!

It was one of my favourites too. My response was brief and more concise as well!

I only wish I knew who took this photo...!

It was used for 2001 Sydney Morning Herald Good Food Month. The theme was 'embrace it'.

Imagine being embraced by a fork :-)

Can remember playing a game "If you were a food, what would you be.."

Someone at the table said "I'd be rouladen on Gabrielle's plate."

food and love...
